I am sure that with time, my life will be as glamorous as we Americans imagine Italy to be. As of now, however, all I have to show for myself is choppy conversational Italian and 78 pounds of "absolute necessities". After two late nights, three bags, and several meltdowns on the living room floor, I have completed my packing and am (gasp) almost ready to go. I will soon depart from JFK via Aer Lingus, hopping across the pond to Dublin for a cuppa (or a pinta since we're talking Ireland), and then continuing on to Rome.
Stay tuned. Ciao!

Only total wusses pack more than 24 hours in advance of a trip.
Some of us still live with parents who insist on such things...just wait until you're THAT dad.
Sarah, it's okay, I not only pack in advance-but I buy doubles of things I am still using at home, so I have them ready 2 weeks in advance! I am so pathetic!!! :) Have fun and I love this blog!!
I'm the dad and up to now I've been the one who has to pack five cubic feet of stuff weighting 65 pounds into a four cubic foot space while magically reducing the weight by 5 pounds. With temper tantrums on the living room floor comes understanding of the immutable laws of physics.
Yes you are a tool, but that's why we love you. and now I booked mark this page so I too can lead the life of a college girl in Italy, wait that sound bad, or good I am not sure.
